Jane Hirshfield - A Hand - Poem for the 3rd Sunday after Epiphany, Year C

The Englewood Review of Books curates a weekly series of classic and contemporary poems that resonate with the themes of the lectionary readings. Here is one of the poems for this coming Sunday (More poems for the 3rd Sunday after Epiphany, Year C can be found here)

A Hand

Jane Hirshfield

to accompany the lectionary reading: 1 Corinthians 12:12-31a

SNIPPET:

A hand is not four fingers and a thumb.

Nor is it palm and knuckles,

not ligaments or the fat’s yellow pillow,

not tendons, star of the wristbone, meander of veins.
