Countee Cullen (1903-1946) was an American poet, novelist, children's writer, and playwright, and was a leading figure during the Harlem Renaissance.  Cullen attended both NYU and Harvard. His writing was in a careful, traditional style, and he wrote about black beauty, racism, racial identity and injustice. (via Wikipedia)
